This policy is for parents, students, young people and other visitors who use the Bit by Bit website or contact Bit by Bit about Computer Science tuition.
Who is responsible for your information?
The data controller is Ben Jervis, trading as Bit by Bit Computer Science Tuition. This means Ben decides why and how personal information is used.

Information Bit by Bit may collect
The information used depends on how you interact with Bit by Bit. It may include:
- a parent's, carer's or learner's name;
- a parent or carer's email address;
- a parent or carer's telephone or WhatsApp number;
- the learner's age, school year, course level, exam board and topics where support is needed;
- information shared in a consultation or tuition enquiry;
- lesson arrangements, attendance, learning needs, work discussed during tuition and progress notes;
- messages exchanged by email or WhatsApp;
- information needed for parent progress updates;
- payment, invoice and accounting records, where applicable;
- testimonial wording and the agreed way it may be shown, where permission has been given; and
- website usage information collected by Google Analytics only after analytics consent.
Please avoid sending sensitive or unrelated information that is not needed to discuss or provide tuition. If particular learning or accessibility information is helpful, share only what is necessary.
How information is collected
Information may be provided directly by a parent, carer or learner when they arrange a paid lesson through Calendly, request a free consultation by email or WhatsApp, enquire about tuition, take part in a lesson, arrange payment or provide a testimonial. A parent may also provide information about their child so that tuition can be tailored and progress can be discussed.
Website usage information is collected through Google Analytics only when the visitor actively accepts analytics cookies.
Why information is used
Information may be used to:
- answer questions and respond to tuition enquiries;
- arrange and hold a free 30-minute consultation;
- decide with the parent or learner whether the tuition appears suitable;
- plan and provide personalised one-to-one tuition;
- understand the learner's current knowledge, goals and areas of difficulty;
- communicate about lessons and provide appropriate parent progress updates;
- manage appointments, invoices, payments and accounting records;
- provide and improve free resources;
- understand website usage after analytics consent; and
- display a testimonial only in the form and context that has been agreed.
Lawful bases
Data protection law requires a lawful basis for each use of personal information. Bit by Bit uses the following bases for the purposes shown:

Lesson bookings, free consultations and Calendly
The booking-options page lets parents choose a paid lesson type or an optional free consultation. GCSE, A-Level, Programming Skills and Diagnostic Lesson bookings use the same paid-tuition Calendly event. Free consultations are arranged separately through WhatsApp or email.
The free consultation is an optional 30-minute conversation, not a tuition lesson or diagnostic assessment, and is arranged through WhatsApp or email. Calendly is used only for paid lesson bookings and processes the details entered into its service under its own privacy notice. Names, email addresses, learner details, booking-form answers, Calendly confirmations and payment information are not intentionally sent to Google Analytics by this website.
Email, WhatsApp and tuition communication
Email and WhatsApp may be used to answer enquiries and communicate about arrangements. Messages sent through those services are also handled by the relevant service provider under its own terms. Parents and learners should not use ordinary email or WhatsApp to send unnecessary sensitive information.
During tuition, Ben may keep proportionate lesson or progress notes so that support can be personalised and parents can be kept informed. Bit by Bit does not use information about a learner for unrelated advertising.
Payments and accounting
Where payment records are needed, information may be used to issue invoices, record payments and meet accounting or tax obligations.
Free resources
The PDF resources on this website can be downloaded without submitting a name or email address. If analytics has been accepted, Bit by Bit may record that a resource file was selected. The analytics event does not intentionally include a visitor's name, email address, telephone number or student details.
Google Analytics and cookies
The website uses essential browser storage to remember your analytics choice. This storage contains no names, email addresses or student information, does not create an advertising profile and is used only for consent preference control.
With your consent, this website uses Google Analytics 4 with measurement ID G-MSGJPM5BR9 to understand which pages and resources are useful. Analytics remains disabled until Accept analytics is selected. Rejecting analytics does not restrict the website.
After consent, Google Analytics may receive information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, device and browser information, consultation-button selections, resource downloads and Tes-link selections. This information is not described as completely anonymous.
GA4 may record only that the booking page was viewed or that a booking link was selected, and only after analytics consent. No names, email addresses, telephone numbers, student details, booking-form answers, Calendly confirmation information, payment details or WhatsApp message contents should be sent to Google Analytics. Advertising storage and advertising personalisation are not enabled by the website implementation.
You can accept, reject, withdraw or change analytics consent at any time through Cookie settings. Rejecting stops future collection and the site attempts to remove its first-party Google Analytics cookies. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals keep Analytics disabled. Testimonials
A testimonial will only be published where permission has been given for the agreed wording and presentation. The site should use only the minimum identifying detail agreed with the person providing it. Permission can be withdrawn by contacting Ben, although this does not affect use that took place before withdrawal.
Who information may be shared with
Information is not sold. The following confirmed services support the website and tutoring service. Each provider should receive only the information needed for its role:
- Calendly — booking paid Computer Science lessons;
- Google — providing Google Meet for online lessons, consent-controlled Google Analytics and the website's externally hosted fonts;
- Netlify — hosting and delivering the website;
- Namescheap — domain-name and related domain services;
- WhatsApp — parent or learner communication when that channel is chosen;
- Instagram and TikTok — operating the linked Bit by Bit social-media accounts;
- Tes — providing Ben's external teaching-resource shop; and
- payment, accounting or email providers where applicable and once their details are confirmed.
When Netlify serves the website, it may process technical request information needed to deliver and protect the service, such as an IP address, browser details, requested page and server logs. The current website does not send tuition enquiry form contents to Netlify; paid bookings are handled through Calendly, while consultations and direct enquiries use email or WhatsApp.
Following a link to Instagram, TikTok or Tes takes the visitor to that provider's service, where its own privacy information applies. Those providers do not receive tuition records merely because their links appear on this website.
Information may also be disclosed when required by law or where necessary to protect someone from serious harm.
International processing
Some of the confirmed providers—including Google, Calendly, Netlify, Namescheap, WhatsApp and Instagram (Meta), TikTok and Tes—may process information outside the UK. Their privacy information explains where they process information and the safeguards they use. Google provides information in its Privacy Policy and data-processing terms.
How long information is kept
Information should be kept only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing tuition, responding to queries, dealing with concerns and meeting accounting or legal duties. Information that is no longer needed should be deleted or securely disposed of.
Children and young people
Bit by Bit provides tuition to students who may be under 18. Privacy information should be explained in a way the learner can understand. Parents or carers will normally be involved in arranging tuition and communication, but young people also have data protection rights of their own.
Only information reasonably needed to provide safe, useful and personalised tuition should be collected. Particular care should be taken before relying on consent or legitimate interests where a child's information is involved.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of use, objection to certain uses, or transfer of information. Where processing relies on consent, consent can be withdrawn at any time. Some rights have legal limits, so the response will depend on the situation and the lawful basis being used.
To make a request, email hello@bitbybitcs.com. Enough information may be requested to confirm identity and understand the request, but unnecessary identification information should not be collected.
